Church Library
Over the past year or so, the Faith Formation team has completely revamped and updated the church library. Located in the church hall, we now have a good selection of materials for families, kids, youth, young adults and mature adults, all organized by section. For example, you can find the latest Karen Kingsbury or Lynette Easton novel in Christian Fiction, or a commentary on the Psalms on the shelf for biblical studies.
We have shelves of devotional materials, theology books, volumes on spiritual care, marriage and parenting materials, books on pastorally challenging topics, Advent/Christmas/Epiphany and Lent/Easter/Pentecost themed books, periodicals like "Gathering - the United Church of Canada Resource for Worship Planners" and "Guidepost Magazine," and plenty of DVD's for children, such as VeggieTales and Dove-approved films, and DVD's with PG and PG-13 ratings, suitable for older youth and adults.
We are delighted to see congregants of all ages using the library, and we've committed to adding ten to twelve new titles each month. We also have a basket where people can donate fiction and non-fiction Christian materials for us to consider shelving; if we can't use your titles, we'll put them in the next church rummage sale, so your books will support the work of the church, either way!
Nursery School/Sunday School Curriculum
The Faith Formation team is responsible for overseeing the curriculum that the nursery class and Sunday School kids use. In 2017, we switched to the Spark House Lectionary Curriculum, which kids, parents, and teachers alike have all appreciated. The lectionary-based system that we are now using means that the kids are learning about the same scripture passages as their parents - but with full-colour graphics and lots of active play! We added the Spark House Psalm Prayer Book to our classrooms this fall, and the teachers seem to be enjoying the resource, and it's ease of use from week to week.
Faith Formation for All Ages & Seasonal Events
The Faith Formation team provides ideas and resources for our all-ages family activities. We welcome new ideas and new faces around our meeting room table, so if there's something you'd like to see us offer at the church, please speak up, especially if you are also willing to provide some help to facilitate your idea!
